    Behavior Management
Discussions should be arranged with the parents to find alternate ways to address the child's behavior. This can range from alternate approaches to placement in a different type of education environment. There are many schools that specialize for certain disabilities that can and may better accommodate a child's needs.

    positive and negative reinforcement
I absolutely believe consequences influence behavior. We constantly say if he does it once and it hurts, he won't do it again. I still stand by this. I believe the consequences can mold behavior.

    Accommodations and Modifications
As long as the accommodations and modifications used in the class are helping the student with LD to reach a level playing field, then no. I think that these students need the help to learn at the same level as the rest of the students.

    Question
I think medication can be extremely beneficial if the right drug is used. A lot of time is wasted testing out drugs onn people trying to find the right dug for the chemical imbalance. Once the correct drug is determined, it works like a light switch.

    Accommodations and Modifications
In response to the posts which have all seemed thus far to agree that modifications and accommodations are necessary to leveling the playing field, I totally agree. As one post notes, these children are born with a neurological disorder; they do not learn like others. If we intend on working to promote success, then we as teachers have a responisbility to llok at the learning styles of all of our students. Since learnign disabilities do vary, as noted in a post, so do strategies. Ths necessitates individual plans of action to help all students, including those struggling and even those ecelling to a level beyond their class.

    Behavior Management
Each child impacts the entire classroom. Children are not isolated in a general education classroom so it is important to create and support an environment in which all children can learn. When one child disturbs that safety becasue of emotional issues or behavior issues this child needs immediate attention. hen interventions are proven to not work, plans need to be made right away to find alternative ways tfor the child to learn. We want to see the success in all students. Setting and environment is crucial. Some children are just not ablet o handle a regular education setting for their own good and others. We would be doing a diservice to all of the children involved in a classroom if we left an emotional/behaviorially disturbed child in a setting that is not conducive to any learning, when proper interventions have taken place. Response time should be immediate in terms of identifying students with these issues, working towards interventions, and evaluating the effectiveness of the interventions.

    positive and negative reinforcement
I do believe consequences can influence behavior. I also think that this idea is something that needs to be taught, discussed, and reinforced in school and at home. Some kids and adults will choose to ignore the fact that their consequences create uunfavorable conditions. This is a fact of life. However, I think for the most part it is a concept that can be taught to children and should be discussed and pointed out. I also think that modeling proper behavior and tone, and word selection can have a positive effect on the behavior of childre. Whether positive or negative, our actions and behavior create outcomes that have an impact on others and ourselves. In a classroom setting the consequences should be brealistic and should be logical. I think reminders are needed and we should not expect children at any age to make the best decsion all of the time. This is the time where they experiement and find who they are. Over reacting or ignoring can be turn offs. This is why logic and reason are so important when creating conseuences.

    Question
Having experienced students who have been on or off medication in my classroom I am a proponent of using medication as a tool to help a child focus. Medication allows a child to experience success in class. I liken it to any other illness that requires medication to stay healthy. I can totally understand that it is a scary decision for parents to decide whether or not to medicate their child. However, having experienced both ends of the spectrum, i can see the value in medication that works. And this may be a difficult path to get to becuase not all medications work for each child. The period of testing certain medicines can be daunting. But, one the correct dosage is found, I have seen children who feel in control of themselves adn are able and ready to learn.

    Wiki Reflection
Inclusion for me has been such a blessing. Having students in my classroom with special learning needs or behavioral needs has taught me so much about myself as well as how to teach. I believe strongly that including all types of learners in a classroom is so beneficial for the general population as well. We all learn from each other. And not only that but we all learn how to deal with different people. Teaching in a school that includes kids with different learning abilities in the regular education classroom has been an amazing experience and, as I reflect on my teaching I can see how much I have grown and learned because of this opportunity.
